Train in a full flight training device at your regional partner center. Repeat the maneuvers safely until the procedures are automatic, with an instructor beside you.

Loss of Control in Flight (LOC-I) has been the number one killer of GA pilots for decades. The stakes are high, and we owe it to ourselves to have a fundamental grasp of the principle of stalled flight.

When you finally get into the plane, you're so well prepared. I knew what I was going to do, and I had a sense of confidence when I flew.
Take the Exploring Stalled Flight program and get comfortable with the uncomfortable. Train with the Learn-Do-Fly three-step framework.
Then debrief to lock it in, and carry it forward into whatever you train next.
Ready for the unexpected?
Nine out of ten fatal accidents end in a stall/spin, usually below 1,000 feet where recovery is often impossible.

“The DO is a highly effective skill-building bridge.”

The airplane is a terrible classroom. You do your skill-building in a simulation device first, choose the path that fits you.

Train in a full flight training device at your regional partner center. Repeat the maneuvers safely until the procedures are automatic, with an instructor beside you.

Prefer to train on your schedule? Use our signature visualization method or your own home simulator to prepare before you ever climb into the airplane.
The flight plan is personalized too, but it does not come from a machine handing you something to take into an airplane. A certified instructor generates it, reviews it, and releases it. You fly it together. That review is not a formality. It is the reason the plan is safe to fly.
We facilitate the connection to certified instructors. Instruction is arranged and paid directly with the instructor.
Everything you do in this course sits in one record that belongs to you.
Nothing is thrown away. Lesson 10 knows what happened in lessons 1 through 9, and the record carries into the next course, the next rating, or a new instructor.
Works alongside this course, a Part 141 or Part 61 syllabus, or your school's own.

Expand your flight envelope, earn the Exploring Stalled Flight badge, and keep flying with confidence.
The airplane is a terrible classroom. You'll learn online and build skills with our signature visualization method or in a simulation device before you ever train in the airplane.
You'll expand your flight envelope and earn a flight review along the way. Collect your Community Aviation certificate and badge, and continue toward proficiency.
This track teaches stall recovery by relying on the sights, sounds, and physical feel outside the window. You will fly with covered instruments to build true sensory awareness of the aircraft's state. Ultimately, you will learn to execute prompt, intuitive recoveries instead of relying on memorized checklists.
This supplemental track trains you to survive stalls and upsets solely by reading your instrument panel. You will learn the "Power-Push-Roll" method to escape spiral dives, which are the most common threat in the clouds. By the end, you will know how to fight sensory illusions and confidently regain control.
Instruction is individual and paid separately. We facilitate the connection to certified instructors; we do not sell their time.

From the visualization to getting up and feeling the plane, it absolutely changed how I looked at flying and my confidence in flying.

“This is not teaching to the test. This is training you for the rest of your flying career.”

Student pilots (as part of required stall and spin awareness training, VFR and IFR, only much better), instrument students, and any pilot looking to expand their flight envelope, perhaps as a precursor to spin, emergency maneuver, or upset prevention and recovery training. It also suits pilots who want more than a basic flight review, pilots transitioning to a new airplane, and instructors or instructor-applicants who want to learn more.
Learn-Do-Fly is a proven three-step framework for optimal learning, with a long history training aerobatic and military aviators. After acquiring knowledge (LEARN), trainees visualize or simulate its application in the DO part, an effective bridge to in-airplane training. DO options include visualization / mental imagery (chair flying on steroids), training on a local flight simulator (ATD), or remote training on a personal ATD or PC. Our work at the Pilot Proficiency Center in Oshkosh and with Exploring Stalled Flight has proven its positive impact on student performance.
The LEARN part (Part 1) is fixed at $149, or you can become a member for $29/month with a 30-day free trial (and alumni get free access). The DO and FLY parts (Parts 2 & 3) are based on the published hourly rates of the training resources: flight simulator, airplane rental, fuel, plus the instructor and the estimated time to complete each part, depending on the pathways you choose.
Two regions right now: Southern California and New England. We plan to expand to other parts of the country once we've established a firm foundation at each Center. If you'd like to take Exploring Stalled Flight, and future Learn-Do-Fly courses, at a training center near you, let us know.
The LEARN part is online. In Southern California, the DO part runs at Aviation Instruction, Camarillo (KCMA, visualization and simulation) and CP Aviation, Santa Paula (KSZP, visualization), with FLY at CP Aviation (KSZP). In New England, both DO (visualization and simulation) and FLY run at Berkshire Aviation (KGBR).
Students who finish Exploring Stalled Flight qualify for an insurance discount from Avemco (if insured by them), plus a program completion certificate and the Exploring Stalled Flight badge, and you earn a flight review along the way.
Yes, provided the airplane is appropriate and approved for the maneuvers, your course instructor is qualified in it and agrees to train you in it, and your insurer / school / flying club approves. Training in an airplane you know is a benefit, but yours may not be suitable or approved for every maneuver, check with your course instructor.
Upon completion of the LEARN part, you'll get access to the methods for booking your DO and FLY sessions.
